Australia - United States trade and investment review: a partnership in transition
The United States is Australia's second largest trading partner and largest single source of foreign investment. The trading relations between the United States and Australia's commercial partners in East Asia are also of fundamental importance to Australia's trade and investment prospects. Unite States' trade policies and practices at the regional and global levels have a major impact on Australia's economic interests through their impact on the world trading system. This report is a comprehensive review of the Australia-United States trade and investment relationship. Itt examines trends in bilateral trade and investment, and analyses recent trends in and the outlook for United States trade policy and the impact on Australia. The report recommends a course of action which addresses key challenges in the relationship
Australia- European Union trade and investment towards 2000
Over the last decade the importance of the Australia-European Union trade and investment relationship has been undervalued on both continents. The size and continuing growth of the relationship, particularly two-way investment flows, deserves greater attention by government, industry and the media. This study is intended to contribute to this process. Australia and the EU have become more relevant to each other as a result of changes in each other's region: in the EU's case, greter political and economic integration, and for Australia, structural change in its economy and closer engagement in the Asia-Pacific region. As the study describes, the Australia-EU relationship has entered a new phase with the conclusion of the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations. The commitment of both sides to deepen and broaden the relationship provides a promising basis on which to address the remaining issues in the trade relationships
